When my dog, Elliot, was about 5, he developed a mystery lameness. When he got up from his nap, he would limp on his right leg for 4 or 5 steps then be fine. I took him to a chiropractor, acupuncturist and regular vet. No one could find anything. I finally took him to an orthopedist who also could find nothing but suggested I put him on Medicam for a month, no ball, no agility - you get the picture. After a month, he was exactly the same. I had purchased a magnet collar for my older dog, Audrey - not that she had anything wrong - she is just a corgi doing agility and I buy her anything that I think might help. On a lark, I took the magnet collar off Audrey and put it on Elliot. Three days later I noticed when he got up he did not limp!! Elliot now lives in his magnet collar.
I don't pretend to understand exactly how magnets work. I only know that in many cases they can help. They won't make a lame dog well but I have had many customers tell me of older dogs that used to lay on the couch now playing with the other dogs, dogs that used to drop bars in agility now leaving them up. I have had customers tell me their dogs seem depressed when they don't wear their collars. One lady in Puerto Rico told me that she used to have to carry her old dog outside to do his "business." Now he walks himself. He's not breaking any land/speed records but his quality of life has definitely improved. Magnets are not a "cure-all" and each dog (just like humans) will respond differently. Our goal is to offer you a safe alternative therapy for your dog's little aches and pains.
All the beads, with the exception of the round colored ones, are extra strength magnets - even the white rectangle faceted ones and the large rectangle one. We double string our collars using heavy duty wire. Because we use beading wire, you don't have to worry about your dog's hair getting pulled or caught in the collar.
Magnets should not be used in acute infectious conditions, pregnant females or dogs with cancerous growths.

To measure, make sure you can fit two fingers between your dog's neck and the collar. I like them to sit right where the neck hits the dog's shoulders.
